EFFECT OF DIET ON MENSTRUATION


The menstral circle involves changes in the hormone level and shedding of blood. In this result, changes in the hormone levels have a great impact on menstrual circle. Since hormone production is affected by diet, diet affects the menstrual circle as well.

PMS
Premenstrual syndrome is a common condition that has mental and physical effects on women, it is worsened by the consumption of caffeine. eg nescaff, salt, alcohol, fatty foods.

IRREGULARITY
WSeight loss cn result to irregular menstrual circle or amoenorrhea like Anoxia Nervosa cessation of menatruation. Irregular periods may also result from lack of proper diet that high in carbohydrates.
Excessive alcohol use causes irregularity as well by interfering with livers ability to metabolize hormones such as estrogen and progesterone.

DIETERY MANAGEMENT OF MENSTRUATION
Reduce the amount of simple carbohydrates found in baked foods and sodas, increase complex carbohydrate e.g.. Oatmeal, soy milk, fish and poultry are preferred, as meat can be high in fat. Increase in fruits and vegetables, also water consumption, calcium and magnesium regulate the menstrual circle and reduce symptoms of PMS.
